Lavera’s commitment as a sustainable company
Sustainability is not just a buzzword for us, but a lived corporate culture since our founding.
Our carbon footprint is important to us. We reduce CO2 emissions, prepare an annual climate balance, and consider everything that is important for the production of the lavera Natural Beauty brand. The conversion factors correspond to the valid international standards according to the GREEN HOUSE GAS Protocol and are updated annually and certified by independent third parties. This allows us to monitor and continuously improve how our sustainable commitment impacts the climate.
CO2 emissions – We avoid, calculate, and offset
Laverana GmbH & Co. KG reduces its CO2 emissions through its own savings measures and annually calculates the remaining CO2 emissions of the company and its products. These emissions are then offset by purchasing CO2 certificates to support climate protection projects, in order to achieve carbon neutrality on the balance sheet.
We take the sequence "avoid emissions, calculate, offset" seriously and reduce CO2 emissions on our own as part of our climate strategy before calculating our annual CO2 output and financing selected climate protection projects to cover the balanced residual emissions.
With the help of energy-saving technologies and optimized processes throughout our entire production chain, we continuously work to reduce our CO2 emissions. For example, our new logistics center in Bantorf was built according to the best possible energy efficiency standards.
Our high standards for quality and sustainability are also reflected in the low energy consumption and pollutant emissions of our company buildings. Through modern technologies such as heat recovery pumps or a twelve-centimeter-thick mineral wool insulation on ceilings and exterior walls, we can save a total of 82,000 kg of CO2 per year just in this area. Finally, our new large photovoltaic system has also brought additional energy-saving potential.
In addition, we are working intensively to offset our CO2 emissions through appropriate measures in our regional manufacturing chain. For example, we are reforesting forests in Germany and helping the German forest become more climate-resistant.
Together with the German Forest Protection Association and Climate Partner, we have also planted the first 30,000 trees on damaged forest areas around Hanover. This marks another milestone on the path to even greater environmental sustainability.
For each fiscal year, we review our entire value chain and create a climate balance sheet. The climate balances prepared for our company according to the principles of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol are thoroughly examined and confirmed by TÜV Rheinland.
This is how we support climate projects
Climate protection projects that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions are always also development projects. These projects assist local people and are aligned with the official 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN (United Nations).
We offset our company's CO2 emissions by supporting climate protection projects that not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but are also development projects promoting social sustainability. An example of our support is the project in India. There, we provide solar lamps, water filters, and efficient cookstoves, helping to improve the quality of life for the local population while reducing environmental impact. These technologies help reduce dependence on traditional and pollutant energy sources and promote a sustainable way of life.
In Kenya, Cambodia, and Malawi, we support projects that provide clean drinking water through the use of water filters. These measures have significantly helped reduce the disease rate in recent years and have made millions of liters of clean drinking water available. In Malawi, for example, we enable local families to access clean, free drinking water through repaired or new wells. Defective wells are identified, repaired, or maintained, and new wells are created where necessary.
Through our support, we aim not only to promote ecological sustainability by protecting the environment but also to show that such projects serve social sustainability, as they make important and valuable contributions to improving living conditions in the affected regions.
