Dr. Neuhoff: Natural fragrances are, as the name suggests, purely natural in origin. They come from plants, flowers, fruits, or woods – and often even from sustainable cultivation, frequently organic-certified. This means: pure nature. The extraction of these valuable fragrance substances is usually done very gently, for example through cold pressing, extraction, or distillation. This not only protects the ingredients but also the environment, because no harsh chemicals or energy-intensive processes are used.

Dr. Neuhoff: Natural fragrances are authentic and convey a delicate, complex, and above all pure scent experience. Each individual ingredient brings its own unique, natural note – whether as a top note, heart note, or base note. The result is a fragrance profile that is lively, multi-layered, and never artificial.
What effects can natural fragrances have on body and mind?
Dr. Neuhoff: They can be nourishing, soothing, or even anti-inflammatory – like chamomile, rose, or lavender. Some essential oils have antibacterial effects and thus support, for example, the effectiveness of deodorants. It is also scientifically proven that essential oils can have aromatherapeutic effects. They can uplift mood, reduce stress, and promote relaxation – a true mood enhancement from nature. These Natural Beauty certifications allow only the use of natural ingredients such as essential oils, plant extracts, and natural aromatic substances, as they occur in nature. Synthetic fragrances are not an option for us. When selecting fragrance components, we pay special attention to creating a harmonious balance. The scents are responsibly dosed and precisely tailored to the respective application. This results in compositions that not only smell pleasant but also care for the skin and senses – always in harmony with people and nature.
How does a fragrance work?
A certain scent triggers memories and feelings in you? No wonder: synthetic or natural fragrances are directly linked to intense sensory perceptions, because nothing is as closely connected to emotional experiences as our sense of smell. We owe this to the so-called olfactory system (also known as the smell system). This complex system consists of receptors, nerve cells, and brain regions that perceive the corresponding smells and associate them with emotions for us.

Production and extraction of fragrances
In the creation of natural fragrances, the best is extracted from natural sources. Essentially, everything that fruit or plant can provide is used as a basis: peel, seeds, kernels, leaves, flowers, buds, stems, roots, resins, twigs.
Natural plant fragrances are essentially based on essential oils. These are fragrant, complexly composed organic liquids. They are produced by some plants in so-called secretory cells and contain numerous individual components.
Essential oils are extracted from most plants in various ways. There are three different, sometimes very elaborate methods used to produce the valuable essential oils:
1. (Cold) pressing of plant components that contain an essential oil, e.g. seed kernels or fruit peels
2. Extraction (“Pulling out” the plant fragrances using an alcohol-based extraction agent)
3. The very popular and frequently used distillation – filtering the fragrance substances with the help of hot steam
