Admittedly, Aloe Vera is probably only truly beautiful from the inside. The rather unattractive, angular appearance of the plant resembles a cactus, but botanically it belongs to the lily family and therefore carries the beautiful name "desert lily." The leaves, which can be up to 50 cm long, have serrated edges. The plant produces orange-yellow flowers, with the flower stalk reaching up to one meter in height. Nowadays, Aloe Vera plants are increasingly cultivated in the USA, Central and South America, Spain, and Australia.

Aloe Vera is considered a true survivor in dry areas because it is very resilient and stores water in its cactus-like, thick leaves, supplying itself with vital moisture over a long period – even for months. A lone fighter with endurance: the self-sufficient plant can produce its own nutrients even under extreme conditions. After a long drought, the leaves shrink, but after the next rain, they straighten up again – this works thanks to the Aloe Vera gel inside the leaf.
