Lemon balm has a centuries-old tradition as a medicinal plant. Its leaves and the essential oil they contain are used as natural remedies for ailments such as restlessness, sleep disorders, or nervous digestive issues. Lemon balm is considered an excellent means to refresh the mind. In natural skincare, it is especially valued for its relaxing and even antiviral effects.
Lemon balm, or "lemon balm" as it is also called due to its citrus-fresh scent, belongs to the family of Lamiaceae. It is a perennial plant up to 1.5 meters high with small flowers. Its components include, among others, the essential lemon balm oil, which mainly consists of the substances citral, citronellal, and linalool and is responsible for the lemon-like, fresh scent of lemon balm. Furthermore, lemon balm contains flavonoids, polyphenols, and tannins. Did you know that the name Melisse originally comes from Greek? The name "Melissa" traces back to the Greek word for "bee." The reason is quite simple: this plant is very popular with bees.
The organic lemon balm extract from our own production, used in some lavera Natural Beauty products, is obtained by extraction from lemon balm leaves.
The extract may have a soothing and antibacterial effect and relieve skin irritations in sensitive skin. The polyphenols contained provide an antiviral effect.
