Prebiotics – for naturally balanced skin

The human skin microbiome consists of a variety of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, viruses, and mites that live on the skin surface. The skin microbiome plays an important role in protecting against harmful microorganisms, supports the immune system, and contributes to skin health. In selected lavera products, prebiotics can help support the natural microbiome.

The effective variety of our prebiotic ingredients

We have carefully selected our prebiotic ingredients to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria and thus support a healthy skin microbiome:

Indian prickly pear extract

The prickly pear is a plant species from the cactus family. Due to its nutrient-rich composition, this extract promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria and maintains the balance in the bacterial community.

Lactobacillus ferment

Obtained through the fermentation of Lactobacillus bacteria, this ingredient has many positive effects in skincare: It strengthens the skin microbiome by displacing harmful bacteria through antimicrobial peptides, creating a healthy, balanced skin microbiome. It regulates skin moisture and soothes irritated and reddened skin. Additionally, it promotes skin renewal, which can contribute to an improved skin appearance and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.

Organic Jerusalem Artichoke Extract

The well-known root vegetable came to Europe in the 17th century and was very popular as a food until it was displaced by the potato in the 19th century. The plant, which can grow up to 3 meters tall, is native to North America but is now also cultivated in parts of Germany. The tubers are irregularly shaped, have white flesh, and a brownish-yellow to red-violet colored skin. Rich in inulin and oligofructose, this extract supports the growth of beneficial bacteria and helps maintain the balance of the skin flora.

Ginger & Organic Green Tea Extract

Ginger can have positive effects on the human microbiome. It contains prebiotic fibers that can promote the growth of good bacteria. It has anti-inflammatory properties and can inhibit the spread of harmful bacteria on the skin. Organic green tea has anti-inflammatory effects and can reduce irritation and redness, helping the skin to repair itself. You can find out more here: GingerOrganic Green Tea.

How prebiotics can help your skin

Prebiotics are natural nutrients for our skin microbiome, which includes bacteria among other things. On the skin, prebiotics promote the growth and activity of the beneficial bacteria living there. Simply put, prebiotics are the food for the "good" bacteria on the skin. "Good" or "beneficial" means that these bacteria prevent the spread of harmful microorganisms and can thus restore a disturbed skin microbiome to balance. By supporting these "good" bacteria on the skin, prebiotics also help strengthen the skin barrier. Therefore, prebiotics are important for maintaining a healthy skin microbiome. As you can see, prebiotics are a key to beautiful, balanced skin. If you want to learn more about how prebiotic skincare can support your microbiome, we recommend our advisory article.
